Exodus 19-21

The experience at Mount Sinai was one of awe, fear and trembling for Moses, Aaron and the Israelites especially with the promise that God makes to His chosen people:

Exodus 19:5-6 "Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession... you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation."

Full obedience. This is a conscious act of the will, a drive and desire to do what God is blessing. God instructs his people to wash their clothes and abstain from sex as Moses consecrates them. Consecration is to be set apart, it is a purification process on a spiritual level, a humbling of one's spirit and obedience to the LORD through acknowledgement of the holiness and righteousness of God.

Exodus 19:18-19 "Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain (and all the people) trembled violently."

How often in my own life do I take things into my own hands - trusting not in the provision, protection, purpose, power and promotion that comes by the mighty hand of God, instead demanding my way and will? My orientation to God must be one of humble obedience, daily surrender and trembling. Trembling in fear that I might possibly be so arrogant and prideful to believe that I could possibly be my own god. There is only one God, He is YAHWEH the LORD God Almighty of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Isaiah 66:2 "These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word."

I am reminded by a prayer at the end of the book The Mighty Hand of God by Dale Evrist, it goes like this:

"Father, I am unwilling to live any other gospel than the true gospel. I am unwilling to live a humanistic gospel. I am unwilling to allow myself to say to you, "Here is what I plan to do: I plan to make something of myself by going out and doing what I want to do."
Father, I come humbly. I come broken before you, and I say that I need You in every way. I ask you to reveal your plan for my life that I may follow you in it and fulfill the destiny you have for me.
Father, I submit myself under your mighty hand, your hand of promotion, provision, protection, power and purpose, and I believe that I will be used by you to accomplish your plans and advances your purposes in the earth during my lifetime.
Thank you for placing your mighty hand over me, under me and around me now. In the name of your son, Jesus, amen."
