Leviticus 26-27
The last two chapters of Leviticus are both sobering and hopeful, God outlines to Moses the punishment for disobedience and reward for obedience while emphasizing total devotion - the irrevocable giving over of things or persons to the LORD.
Leviticus 26:40,42 (KJV) "If the shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land."
There are strong crossover references to confession of sin (iniquity) as it relates to salvation in this Levitical passage and Romans 10:9-10 "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." It is with a, active, verbal, out-loud confession with our mouth that results in the LORD remembering His covenant. The beautiful reality is that God always keeps his end of the agreement, will or covenant, God is endlessly faithful and does not forget his promises. The old covenant law in Leviticus required the blood sacrifice of bulls and goats, in the establishment of the LORDs new covenant, His one and only Son Jesus paid the price of sin through His death on a Roman cross - in our place. When we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, God remembers His new covenant that he made in 33 A.D. and our sin is washed away, Jesus paid it all.
Knowing that God paid for sin with his one and only son - saving mankind from Himself with Himself - compels a humble and surrendered devotion to the LORD. The author of life gives us eternal life through our ongoing devoted obedience to His will, man was created to worship and make famous the Name of our Creator, the all sovereign, all powerful, one true God of the heavens and the earth. Our purpose is to fear God through keeping his moral law and enjoy Him forever, this brings Him the greatest pleasure and upon us His greatest favor. This concept really upends any selfish ambition or earthly gain through materialism. When man realizes that he is to be holy just as God is holy through total irrevocable giving of one's life and will for the sake of his Creator, that man will find the greatest fulfillment, pleasure and comfort in the matchless grace and unending love of YAHWEH.
Leviticus 27:28 (NIV) "But nothing that a person owns and devotes to the LORD - whether a human being or an animal or family land - may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD."
I highly encourage you to listen, re-listen, take notes, meditate on, re-read the notes, reflect annually and discuss with other believers the implications of covenant has on daily Christian living and how we can live more surrendered lives for the King and the Kingdom as taught by Derek Prince in this brief 10 min. teaching. I am reminded frequently that a right relationship with God is, "direct, personal, total, unreserved commitment to God." O LORD may every area of my life exude devotion to you, in thought, in deed, in word and in spirit; may your kingdom come and your will be done in my heart, mind, soul and strength as it is in heaven. I am yours forever.
