Deuteronomy 11-13

The LORD is loving, kind and fully of mercy and grace, these passages today describe the reward for those who love, obey, listen and worship the LORD properly by destroying false gods and rejecting apostate religion. Deuteronomy 11 reiterates some components of the Shema from chapter 6, often in scripture when a phrase or passage is repeated there is important emphasis and attention that is to be focused on with great consequence.

Deuteronomy 11:18 (NKJV) "Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes."

With the sheer volume of information both to be taken in and accessible at any point in time on a typical day in western culture in 2026, it is easy to be distracted with words, ideas and knowledge. In modern practice what does look like to lay up the words of God in our heart and soul? Hearkening back to chapter 8 and the command to remember the LORD ways we meditate on the word of the LORD deeply in our heart, soul and mind is through writing out, speaking out and thinking consistently of the truths of God's word and His promises and blessings for obedience. Jesus taught the greatest commandment is to love the LORD your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, how does one adhere to this commandment? By remembering. How do we remember when our minds are saturated with things to pull our affections away from the good things of the LORD? Crowd out the noise with silence. Sit quietly in the presence of the LORD daily, meditate on the word of God, earnest prayer, journal what He reveals to you through the Holy Spirit-actually write down what you're hearing and understanding in the word. This is pure worship unto the LORD and this daily practice will radically transform your mind.

"The life of someone who engages Scripture four or more times a week looks radically different from the life of someone who does not. In fact, the lives of Christians who do not engage with the Bible most days of the week look no different from the lives of non-believers." ~Center for Bible Engagement
